Keilaniemenranta Urban Planning

Espoo

Making the most of the seaside

Keilaniemenranta is an extensive site plan change in Espoo. The plan change covers a total of 105,000 GFA, of which approx. 70,000 GFA is new construction.

The schematic solution is based on a significant traffic change. Light traffic connections are strengthened by connecting Otsonlahti to the planning area, and the seashore is made easier to access from a wider area. The functional center Rantaraitti will be created, connecting Espoo’s seaside areas and services.

In front of the former Neste Oy headquarters, the above-ground parking building with its roof structures was demolished. Instead, a new city square with two glass pavilion buildings was created at Keilaniementie’s level.

Changing the shoreline and placing a new office and hotel tower by the sea enables a lively and functional beach promenade. Two tall residential buildings are also located there.

Two other buildings are also located in the area of the plan change: Finland’s tallest office building, Raaden hammas (now known as Accountor tower), and Keilalampi, erected in 1994 and serving as the headquarters for If insurance company.

SARC has been responsible not only for the plan change, but also for the main and architectural design of existing buildings and new buildings. Planning aimed at the plan change began in 2017 and the plan change was confirmed in 2018. Construction planning continues in the area.
