The bus terminal building is part of the Kaupunkikeskus Tapiola project
The bus terminal is located in the basement level of the Ainoa shopping center at level +1 (M level).
The building is mainly single-story, except for staircases, elevators, and escalators leading to the upper floors. The terminal’s waiting areas, platform zones, and Merituulentie carriageways are situated at level +1 (M level), with technical shafts and channels serving building and municipal systems located below (K level). As part of the bus terminal project, the deck structures of Sammonsilta and Helmakuja were also constructed at levels +7.8 and +12.8.
Merituulentie divides the terminal into northern and southern sections, with bus and car platforms and carriageways in between.
The northern part of the bus terminal consists of two waiting areas separated by a glass wall. The western section contains six bus departure platforms, each equipped with separate vestibules. The eastern section is reserved for through-route stops, accommodating three buses simultaneously. This area does not have vestibules between the platform and waiting area.
The northern terminal borders the entrance to the Länsimetro Tapiola station building on the west and the Kaupunkikeskus Tapiola retail spaces (Ainoa) on the north. The waiting area connects through a glass wall to the shopping center’s gallery corridor.
In front of the southern waiting area, there are three stops for buses terminating in Tapiola and two stops for through-route buses. There are no separate vestibules between indoor and outdoor spaces. From the waiting area, there are direct escalator and elevator connections both down to the Länsimetro station and up to the shopping center retail spaces at level +7.8.
At the western end, there is also an elevator and staircase connection leading to Sammonsilta, which remains accessible outside retail opening hours. From the eastern part of the waiting area, there is an accessible route to Itätuulenkuja via the Helmakuja elevator lobby.
The terminal’s waiting areas are semi-heated indoor spaces. The building’s façades are mainly glass. Outdoor walls are clad with grooved and acid-treated colored concrete elements.
