Smart elegance at Kasarmitori, a new build in the heart of the city
Kasarmikatu 21 is a rare new construction project in the old grid area of the center of Helsinki. Two office buildings with low floor heights, completed in the 1960s were demolished from the construction site. The new building is planned for two plots and according to two original site plans.
The primary occupant of the building is Roschier, a Finnish founded Nordic law firm. The building design is thoughtfully integrated into the city’s surrounding environment. Its façades are made up of a light limestone-clad grid with expansive windows, one edge of which is punctuated by a bevelled and patterned glass part.
The differences in height of the construction site have been utilised by dividing the large building into two parts.
Ahlström Capital, HGR Property Partners and YIT Rakennus commissioned the project. The LEED Platinum certificate awarded building was completed in 2017 and its total area is 22 700 m². Sarc architets was responsible for the main and architectural design of the project.
