SIGGE Architects was runner-up in an architectural competition by the Student Village Foundation of Turku for their entry “Kylänkulma”
The competition was looking for unique architecture for a new student housing complex in Turku, Finland.
The Kylänkulma student housing block is located by the Halistenkoski rapids, and it will be the new eastern edge of the Student Village. The area is right by the Aurajoki riverbank, and the protected Uhrimäki historical site is also next to the area. The old maintenance and daycare buildings located currently in the area will be demolished, and the new buildings will have new student apartments and services that support student housing. The new housing location is intended to be a distinctive, reasonably-priced, high-quality, and comfortable entity.
